Miguel Fluxa, owner of the large Spanish hotel chain IBEROSTAR says that México is losing its attraction as tourist destination because of its security problems. He confirms what everybody knows and acknowledges, only SECTUR (Mexico´s Ministry of Tourism) and Mexico´s Presidency prefer to ignore it.
Fluxa says that the tourist industry in México had to lower prices, which in almost all of the cases meant a reduction in quality of the offer.
In 2008 IBEROSTAR abandoned its project in FONATUR´s Centro Integralmente Planeado of NAYARIT. Since then the ruins they left behind are “destroying value” in the region.
If IBEROSTAR ever decides to revitalize its Litibú project, Fluxa´s comments will probably mean a ´redesign´ of their investment in RIVIERA NAYARIT, orienting it towards lower budget segments =mass tourism, … desastrous for the area.
