Trash all over the place, … many of the beaches littered.
Illegal garbage dumps everywhere.
The Municipal Administration denies that there is a problem.
The new urban development plan doesn´t even mention the issue.
There are aprox. 80 clandestine dumps in the municipality. Many of them are not located or identified as a problem.
Several near rivers, where rain discharges toxic liquid waste that runs down the rivers into the sea.
The municipal administration denies that there is a problem.
The person in charge (Matías Verdín Heras, Dirección de Ordenamiento Territorial, Desarrollo Urbano y Medio Ambiente, busy to satisfy the demands of real estate developers, … including generating lucrative projects for the arquitectural consulting firm of his spouse), doesn´t know to manage these dumps.
Jaime Cuevas, the Mayor, the person ultimately responsible, is running for a 3rd tenure.
Nor does the municipal administration have an idea how to create educational programs that combat people´s bad habit of “sowing” large parts of the landscape of our municipality with garbage.
The new Urban Development Plan, written by the municipal Planning Institute (IMPLAN), doesn´t even mention the issue.

Beginning of this week a group of volunteers spent 6 hours cleaning one of the larger illegal dumps on the road between Higuera Blanca and Sayulita.
Within hours after finishing this great example of community work a van of Grupo CARSO unloaded its debrie exactly at the very same place that just had been cleaned.
Grupo CARSO is owned by Carlos Slim, the richest person of México (Telmex, Sanborns, Sears/Mex., Condumex, Office Max, Televisa and many others).
